Windsurfing: Tarifa - Las Dunas Wind Direction: NE Wind Stength: 10-30kts! Surf / Sea State: Lumpy Air Temperature: 19 Sea Temperature: 14 Weather: Sol! Max Speed: Distance Covered:
As I was rigging up, it was generally 5.4 weather but the gusts were
nuclear... A spanish guy I spoke to said it was EXTREMELY up & down, but
due to increase.
So I rigged up the 5.4, thinking that avid readers may think I posess no
other sails... The first foray into the water was, again, completely
overpowered & messy. Coming back, I couldn¥t even get on the plane! Going
out again, nicely powered-up thank you, then coming back SHOOTING over the
backs of the waves and suddenly ¥something¥happened and had the most
horrendous crash. I was so glad to be wearing a lid. Once I¥d surfaced,
something felt very wrong, and bobbing a few yards away was my 9 month old
harness, the attachments completely shot to pieces. Hooked it under a
footstrap & limped back to shore, forarms throbbing & getting whipped over
the bars a few times. Took out my old seat harness (not used a seat in over
a year!) and rigged up a 4.7 . Not used these 2nd hand sails before either.
Meanwhile, a german guy was coming in with a 4.5, saying it was just no fun
out there - nothing or nuclear. As for me, I don¥t know whether it was the
fact I¥d gone back to a seat, the sail, or the wind, but the only word I
can think of to describe the whole under/over experience is ¥shite!¥. Not
good.
For the record, the harness that broke is a Maui Magic Vision waist
harness. It¥s in for repairs now, but if I was earning a wage I¥d chuck
it and get a decent one, it¥s let me down a few times with its weak
attachment bits.
